‘Republican gun-toters’

Those on the political left are nothing short of amazing in their disdain and hatred for anybody who runs afoul of their dogma; anybody they believe supports Trump or gun rights; anybody not like them.

Take, for instance, Hayley Geftman-Gold, a CBS executive whose Facebook posting about the victims of the Las Vegas massacre was nothing short of shocking.

“If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing,” she posted. “I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans are often republican gun toters.”

The 41-year-old CBS vice president and senior counsel for strategic transactions presumably was referring to the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting where a gunman murdered 20 elementary school students.

CBS dumped Geftman-Gold almost immediately, saying she had “violated the standards of our company.”

That anybody could think, much less post for the whole world to see, those thoughts should give us all pause, but among the vast legions of Trump-haters inside media companies and out, that kind of thinking is not an oddity.

In fact, compared to some we have seen and heard, it is pretty tame. It is good that, occasionally, the left shows us its face.

I find it amazing the number of “Progressive Democrats” who believe themselves to be morally superior to the lesser “minions”, the smelly blue collar workers who are not college educated, the “racist” white Christians, small town bigots, etc.
have posted on-line, tweeted, and who are the darlings of the Late Night Shows, have publicly said some pretty callous, heartless things about the victims of the Las Vegas massacre.
Yes, the amount of hate they have not only for Trump voters but anyone who doesn’t agree with their party line on every point is beyond belief.
This country is closer and closer to a civil war or some type of political coup.

There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. U.S. population 324,059,091 as of Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.000000925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:

    • 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
    • 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
    • 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence
    • 3% are accidental discharge deaths

So technically, “gun violence” is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100. Still too many? Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?
    • 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago
    • 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore
    • 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit
    • 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years)
