Thank goodness for Meryl Streep …
Thank goodness for Meryl Streep and other Hollywood types determined – and willing – to sacrifice themselves to save us from the likes of Donald Trump. Without them, we all likely would be marching toward prison camps.
Streep was in New York City during the weekend to accept the National Ally for Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign, an advocacy group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues.
While there, she launched into a fiery speech lambasting President Donald Trump. She pledged to stand up against “brownshirts and bots,” a reference to the criticism she received after the Golden Globes ceremony where she roundly chastised Trump.
“It’s terrifying to put the target on your forehead, and it sets you up for all sorts of attacks and armies of brownshirts and bots and worse, and the only way you can do it is to feel you have to,” Ms. Streep said. “You have to. You don’t have an option. You have to.”
After her Golden Globes rant, Trump called her overrated,. It was not immediately known who Streep was calling “brownshirts,” a term describing a paramilitary group of thugs that assisted the rise of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.
It is nothing short of amazing that folks who make a good living pretending on the silver screen, people who promote brutality and violence in films, people who glorify the absolute worst in us come somehow to believe they know what is best for the average American and see themselves as our saviors.
Thank goodness for Meryl Streep and other Hollywood types determined and willing to sacrifice themselves to save us from the likes of Donald Trump.
What would we do without them?
