It is difficult to fully grasp the seriousness of what happened yesterday in Washington, D.C., as rioters invaded the U.S Capitol, threatening our most cherished institutions.

For those of us who have grown up believing to our core the United States is indestructible, that it just “is,” and will be forever, the scenes of chaos in the nation’s Capitol were a shock. Who could begin to believe such madness in the very heart of our democracy? Who could believe rioters or insurrectionists intent on overturning the election results to give President Donald Trump a second term could do such damage to this nation? We were shaken.

But what makes it worse – what makes it more unbelievable – is that the mob was stirred to action by Trump, who betrayed his office as he exhorted it to storm the Capitol – then sat idly by on the sidelines while it carried out his bidding. In the process, he and his mob made this nation look more like a Third World rat’s nest than the linchpin of the free world.

Democracy is as fragile as a butterfly’s gossamer wings and will exist here only for as long as we are willing to do the work necessary to keep it in good order. Our republic, after all, is an ephemeral idea in human history, a fleeting promise, not a rock-solid given with no expiration date. The light can be extinguished.

What happened in the U.S. Capitol at Trump’s behest was nothing less than shameful and it is emblematic of the heated partisan sickness that has gripped this nation for the past few years, a sickness that if left unchecked could destroy our republic.

Perhaps now the fever has broken. The future of the republic depends on that.

President Trump did not incite the riot. That is fake news. More Never-Trump B.S.

Chuck is sooooo right. The left could get away with tearing down the country and it’s heroic, iconic statues and now the pickled brain crowd wants prosecution for a what transpired in a building and institution they do not even believe in.
I do hope that the 14 year Air Force female veteran who had her life take becomes a lasting hero as I don’t believe any vile or anti-American BLM/Antifa were ever shot the whole summer as they ransacked and burned cities and have never taken responsibility for 30 years of gangster rap culture that has killed 10’s of thousands, many of them children.
She should get a statue, but then the left Marxist would tear that down too

It’s so refreshing to see dd is still posting
I can honestly say that just seeing he has something to say gives me a tingle in my spine and causes me to avoid reading his tripe laced rhetoric and move on to other more respectable opinions that edify rather than poison this opinion page

To those who criticize the Anchorage Daily Planet for calling this despicable incident out for what it was, no one cares. This is a conservative page. I come here to criticize it, and for bonus points, criticize you MAGA cry babies. You’ve ridden GOP coat tails to get this far and tried to hijack the party all in the name of 1 person, to establish a monarch. You aren’t Republicans, not part of the GOP – just fascists who showed your true colors. Embrace your flag while you still can, it leaves office in 13 days and is headed straight to jail.

My question is why was the invasion of a public building a riot and the destruction of businesses over the last 12 months just peaceful protests? Why was not the same response for prosecution of the people who stole from and burned private businesses addressed?

Why Was Founder Of Far-Left BLM Group Filming Inside Capitol As Police Shot Protester?

Filming the incident from behind Babbit, however, was Utah resident John Sullivan – founder of the far-left organization “Insurgence USA” who made headlines in July after he was arrested for intimidating drivers in Provo. Sullivan was interviewed by the Daily Mail and CNN following Wednesday’s shooting – both of which failed to provide a satisfactory answer as to why he was there in the first place.

Sullivan told the Mail that “he was not at the Capitol as part of the protest but did not specify what exactly brought him there.”

Rhonda and Matt are spot on!
None of the following are falsehoods or lies, just fact ignored by the media and Democrats and all very relevant:

Pennsylvania broke state law by suspending signature verification requirements.

Michigan’s Democrat secretary of state “illegally flooded the state with absentee
ballot applications” even though Michigan law strictly limits the distribution of absentee ballots.

Wisconsin’s Democrat cities deployed over 500 unmanned, unsecured ballot drop boxes.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger started processing ballots “weeks
before Election Day” and also “destroyed the signature verification systems in violation of the law.”

Absenteeballot rejection rates proved that “hundreds of thousands of illegitimate ballots” had been counted in key states, which was “sufficient to change the election results all in their own.”

The rejection rates for ballots in most states were “magically” the lowest they had been.

Read this editorial, thought it was spot on and decided not to comment because it just would have sounded like “Bravo, spot on”. Then figured I’d come back later to see who in their right mind would defend insurrectionists. Lucky me, I get to find Rhonda and Matt: Both who are spreading more disinformation, this time from Parler accounts that are simply saying that BLM and ANTIFA have infiltrated the MAGA movement and stormed the capitol building in an attempt to make Trump look bad. No notable source, nothing credible, just Parler accounts of people saying it happened so it must be true. That amazing critical thought is the same reason that so many MAGA folks believe that this election was fraudulent in the first place. No demonstrable evidence, no factual basis, just idiots believing their opinions matter, so they must be true. Rhonda, you went one step further to ask “How did the president stir the mob to action?”. When Trump called that entire crowd to the white house steps on the day of the electoral college count, then told them the election was stolen (lie), told them that Pence was going to let him down (Lie), told them there was no greater fraud in the entire world history (Lie), he then told them not to let them (congress) steal it, be strong, and march over there and disrupt it. He then took his sweet ass time calling in the national guard. That’s called sedition. The mob are just insurrectionists. And you and Matt are either sycophants or something far less sharp. I know where my money is.

Where it happened is not the whole story. It was the left at the Democratic convention in 1968. It has been the “left” ever since working to undermine America. 5 years of undermining Trump everyday with fake collusion, fake impeachment, fake elections.
The real collusion was the left working together to fix the election and the cover up.

  11. Rhonda Stark January 7, 2021 at 12:12 pm

What? How did the President ‘stir the mob to action?’ Where is the evidence he ‘exhorted ‘it’ to storm the capital’? Further there is evidence coming forth that the Marxist movements did indeed have a hand in the ‘storming of the capital’. If this is the case I have yet to see any primary sources portraying and would like to see them in the face of such accusation.

Lastly, where was all the outrage from new sources and elected leaders over the past myriad of months of rioting, assault, ‘storming’ of police departments and courthouses, all of the destruction, and terrorism intent on instilling fear in law abiding citizens all across our nation. Where, please, was the outrage? Many in Congress were complicit in their silence and even subtle statements of encouragement. It seems numerous members of congress should be the ones imprisoned, and impeached.

Hard to type in these little boxes hence missed my bad grammar above. First, there is no evidence. The president did no inciting. That is false. I just spent time listening to some transcripts. To be fair, there is also no proof that Antifa or BLMers were involved in the actually pretty small group that ‘stormed’ the capital. Most in attendance at he rally did not storm anything. Still there have been pictures of participants that were there and had also been photographed involved in BLM rallies.

And why is it wrong to want our constitution upheld? We know there was fraud. We know that numerous states had election problems including ours. Why in the world would we be expected to brush this aside? Why is Anchorage Daily Planet siding with the left? I am really perplexed and disappointed.

Pence succumbed to cowardice. He has now set the precedent and took the easy way out.

This is utter trash. Shame on you for publishing this. IT WAS ANTIFA/BLM TERROISTS! They were let in by the police!!! Stop buying this garbage. Oh, and we are NOT a democracy.
