Let the inquisition begin

We find ourselves waiting with bated breath for the news media’s outright indignation, its thunderstruck fury at Democratic Mayor Ethan Berkowitz’s confession to some sort of hanky-panky in recent years with a reporter.

After all, unless he resigns, he is mayor of Anchor Town for about six more months. Plenty of time for the media to peel the onion and get to the truth.

For Berkowitz’s part, he says he had a “major lapse in judgment … several years ago when I had a consensual, inappropriate messaging relationship with reporter Maria Athens.” He says he is sorry and apologized to the people of Anchorage and his family. He says he is “embarrassed and ashamed.”

Athens, if you will recall, went on social media Friday with a bombshell claim Berkowitz posted inappropriate nude photos to a website.

Now, the news media, trepidatious for days about reporting any of this smarm surely will do what they do – doggedly dig to the bottom of the “inappropriate messaging relationship,” whatever that is. Surely there are more pictures than what have surfaced. None of the texts in those messages has been publicized. What else is involved? Who said what to whom? Was the mayor’s private City Hall bathroom involved? Details. The public wants details.

Answering those questions – and many, many more – is what the media do. Just look at how they recently and relentlessly charged after flirtatious text exchanges between former Republican Attorney General Kevin Clarkson and a woman who works in the governor’s office. No mercy. No holds barred. They are still trying to get answers. That is the kind of thing the media do – and surely will do to in this case to get the truth in the Berkowitz affair.

We fully expect in a few days, or maybe weeks, to have the whole, sordid, salacious Berkowitz story along with its seamier details after the media does their thing.

But, hey, we are not holding our breath.

But Hector Barajas, a spokesperson for the California Republican Party, said that they wouldn’t take down the dropboxes, claiming that party’s actions did not break any laws as California is one of 26 states that does not restrict “ballot harvesting,” which allows a third party to collect voters’ completed ballots so long as it meets verification requirements.. In fact, they would continue to place the boxes as they had been around mostly conservative areas in the largely liberal state. So far, they have targeted areas around churches, gun shops, and Republican Party offices.

“A vote for a democrat is just another nail in the coffin of common sense, decency, morals and judgement. All the things that make civilizations and countries succeed or fail.

“A vote for a democrat is just another nail in the coffin of freedom.”

A democrat got caught cheating on his wife, then resigned his office due to his actions. That’s fair. If you can’t hold the highest of contracts to your own wife, the expectation would be that you would always go against your word. A very similar situation like this occurred with the president of the United States, where he cheated on his wife with a porn star, and he didn’t resign anything. Just paid her to keep quiet, which obviously she didn’t, then expects for you to continue praising him like he follows god’s path righteously. Could you say “A vote for a republican in just another nail in the coffin of freedom” for Trumps actions? Probably not, just 1 man without a moral code or compass. Just happens to be an influential man with a remarkably large cult following.

Add in the fake ballot boxes being placed in Los Angeles by the GOP for harvesting, the removal of ballot drop off’s by GOP representatives in Texas (Overturned thank goodness), the phrase “Win at all costs” from your GOP representatives in their closed session where it was noted that a great part of this pandemic was that liberal college educated kids wouldn’t get to vote. Would that make it a nail in democracy, yeah I think so. You’re not the right, not conservatives, not republicans, not anything worth debating, not anything resembling Americans. You call democrats “communists” and “Socialists” because they want to engage our children in higher learning and provide health care for all in a country that pays 6 times more than any other country in the world in medicine. The GOP is actively making it harder to vote, and stealing ballots. What would that make you Jack?

According to Section 7.02(c) of the Anchorage Municipal Charter: “A vacancy in the office of mayor shall be filled at a regular or special election held not less than 90 days from the time the vacancy occurs. If less than 90 days remain in the term when the vacancy occurs, the vacancy shall not be filled. When a vacancy occurs in the office of mayor, the chairman of the assembly shall serve as acting mayor until a successor is elected and takes office. The acting mayor has the veto power, but may not vote on assembly action. The assembly by ordinance shall provide for further succession to the office of acting mayor.”

I’m looking for a person in all of this who has leadership responsibilities and the integrity / wisdom to navigate through this hell hole. I wonder who that person might be?
The Governor? He does have the responsibility!
    Where the hell is he???????

Given the probable contents of the photos and texts that the mayor is keeping hidden, I propose some new names- “Balls-o-wotz” or “Halfwitz” would be appropriate.

Another reason to state “A vote for a democrat is just another nail in the coffin of freedom.”
