Thank goodness

Democrats in the Senate are grumbling and fretting, trying to decide what to do about President Donald Trump’s appointment of Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court bench.

The good news: They are unlikely to muster votes necessary to stop the nomination.

The best news: Barrett, now a 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge, once clerked for Antonin Scalia and is firm devotee of originalism, Scalia’s favored interpretation of the Constitution.

That terrifies the Left and those who yearn to have the Constitution become a “living” document subject to change by mere whim. Even more terrifying for them is the prospect of some laws they have jammed down the nation’s throat being weakened or changed, especially Roe v. Wade, the decision legalizing abortion.

Having the 48-year-old Barrett ensconced on the Supreme Court bench will go a long way toward preserving Americans’ individual freedoms for decades to come.

Thank goodness.
