The march continues
As the march to cheapen and undercut our election system continues, it was only a matter of time, we suppose, before voters could post selfies with their ballot on social media.
That day has arrived. Posting a photo or video of your municipal ballot previously was illegal, but a recent Anchorage Assembly ordinance sponsored by Assemblyman Pete Petersen, a heavy union favorite when it comes to campaign donations, changed all that.
While it is legal to post your ballot online, the code does still prohibit showing that picture to anyone while within 200 feet of a polling location – as if nobody carries cell phones.
What with early balloting, what a nifty, cost-effective and easy way for special interest groups to show, then remind, their members how they are expected to vote.
The march continues.
